Poker in the United States has seen a dramatic increase in popularity with the introduction of internet Online Poker sites. In 2005, revenues from online poker were estimated at $200 million per month, which is an outstanding revenue figure for an online industry. The companies that run these sites are all well known names such as PokerStars.com and Full Tilt, however though; they are typically headquartered outside of the US. It is in this way that these companies avoid paying US taxes and friction with US anti-gambling legislation. Respectively, the US government is very unhappy with Online Poker, as it is an unregulated trade which doesn’t pay taxes and flirts with societal vice. In an attempt to express this discomfort with Online Poker, the US has passed laws that many have perceived as effectively rendering online poker illegal. Fortunately for US poker players, the legality of Online Poker still remains open and undecided. The legislature that was passed, the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA), only restricts financial institutions from processing payments to and from Online Poker sites. When the law first passed, it was touted in the media as being a death sentence for Online Poker. How wrong they were. Many poker sites bailed out of the US market, but a few were smart enough to realize that they could simply use other transaction mediators such as PayPal and continue operations. These Online Poker sites are the ones that we are promoting here on United States Online Poker.com. So look around, get some bonus codes, because now is better than ever to get some free money to play with!
